Top Foresight Organizations

http://www.appliedforesight.org/
The Applied Foresight Network is community of professors, instructors, students and citizens where members discuss (informally) the various issues that seem important to the future of humanity. The community allows UAT students to discuss, in an intellectual forum, the important future studies issues.

http://www.arlingtoninstitute.org/
"Founded in 1989 by futurist John L. Petersen, The Arlington Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research institute that specializes in thinking about global futures and trying to influence rapid, positive change. We encourage systemic, non-linear approaches to planning and believe that effective thinking about the future is enhanced by applying newly emerging technology. Therefore, we strive to be agents of change by creating intellectual frameworks * tool sets understanding the transition in which we are living." Pretty self explanatory, many of the worlds up coming and current crisis's are discussed including the petroleum shortage and the possibility of a food shortage from using too much ethanol based fuel. Other topics include water shortage, economic collapse and global climate change. I believe this is useful to our class as it is necessary to view "worse case scenarios" in order to avoid them.

Science, Evolution, and Development Organizations

Cognitive Engineering Research Institute for Collaborative Innovation
The best way of describing this research institute is through their own mission statement:
"CERI (Cognitive Engineering Research Institute) is an independent, not-for-profit research institute founded by partners from private industry, academia, and government laboratories. CERI brings these sectors together to solve critical collaborative cognition problems and to form pathways from scientific results in the laboratory to implementation in systems of national importance. CERI accomplishes this through human-centered design, problem-oriented research, and multidisciplinary collaboration among scientists and practitioners."
This facility is located in Mesa, AZ and their website is http://www.cerici.org [Chris Schoerning]

The Alcor Life Extension Foundation is an organization dedicated to researching ways to preserve human life artificially via cryogenics until the technology can be developed to revive them and fix whatever problems the people were having when they died. This could have strong implications for our future because it could let more people with great minds into the world at the same time, and possibly spark major research advancements when huge superscientist groups are working together. \Bill Nega\

Technology (Engineering, Infotech, Sociotech, Cognotech, Biomedtech) Organizations

Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources Organizations

http://www.gtinitiative.org/
An organization dedicated to creating a better future and analyzing the requirements needed for “another world.” The site has several possible global scenarios that students might find enlightening, as well as a small collection of scholarly papers that might be useful for future essays or research topics.
