Top Foresight Games and GamesitesScience, Evolution, and Development Games and Gamesites-psi opps has some themes that that i believe contributes to science and evolution. the game is based on enhanced operatives that have psychic abilities fighting a war for power. i think this game is a good reference as to what will happen to people in the future when we start to fully understand the human brain (the last 90% of the untaped brain power we have). it also illustrates a possible conflict that would happen should humanity take this cores, a basic power struggle.

Gamasutra is a website devoted to "The Art & Business of Making Games". They often have interviews with developers talking about new technologies being implemented in upcoming or recently-released games. Additionally, there are occasionally Futures panels involving a lot of people in the industry and their outlook on where the gaming world is going. \Bill Nega\
Prediction GamesAs stated from this link, these types of games challenge you to guess the future instead of knowing the past. They are interesting because they are not very popular, but those people that are a part of them are very involved and very defensive of them (I know one myself). If you decide to get involved with them, there are several links to different ones at the bottom of the page provided.

Sumotori Dreams- A game smaller in size that most jpegs, the AI seems to use procedural programming rather than scripted animations to move. The AI moves very similarly to a drunk toddler learning to walk. - Pajamas
Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources Games and Gamesites
World Without OilA 30 day alternative reality game (ARG) that used online community to promote positive social change (energy conservation). 1,800 people participated, 60,000 people viewed the site, and each user developed his or her own solutions to a fictional 32 week beginning of a global oil/gas/energy crisis. The best shortages were featured on the site. Very cool example of a serious game in the energy/sustainability space.
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII is a classic tale of conflict between machines an nature. Gaia, the world of FFVII, is slowly being drained of its life force by ShinRa's Mako Reactors. This is a very similar situation to our current stance on resources, or growing lack there of.
Starcraft
Starcraft breaks the fourth wall by directly teaching players that resource and energy management are very important things. The world's next generation of generals already know that they must construct additional pylons.

Metal Gear Solid Series, Hideo Kojima-
Stealth action gaming at it's best you play Solid Snake in various sneaking missions to stop international incidents ranging from the Soviets during the cold war era, to modern terrorists kidnapping the president and holding the world hostage. Several themes pervade the games such as shadow governments, nuclear equipped walking battle tanks [Metal Gears], to psychological manipulation. Even themes like being unable to distinguish between virtual and real situations come up in one game. A top notch series with heavy political themes. Go to

Seven big predictions in the future of gaming.Firstly, this article is a few years old. This is not a bad thing, as it lets us go back and look at what people predicted would happen and compare it to what actually happened. It is surprizing to see the changes. If you look down this list you will see several of them have already happened while some are still a ways off. Even with the progress, I think this is still a great list of changes we can look forward to happening.

Multidisciplinary Games and GamesitesRealistic Fiction Games and Gamesites
[Realistic fiction has major parts which feel like they actually could happen in the future, under the right circumstances. Most fantasy and a lot of science fiction really doesn't count as realistic--there are exceptions however, and if you think that some particular aspect of a fantasy or SF quotation feels realistic, include it here and explain why. Future fiction is a subgenre of general or science fiction that feels realistic most of the way through, to many readers. Good future fiction is quite hard to write, as you can imagine.]
List Fiction Quotes Below in Alpha Order by TitleBioshockI think that the game Bioshock demonstrates a wide array of possible futures: cities underwater, widespread use of gene therapy, the collection of intellectuals into communities, and various other futuristic themes. Although the game demonstrates how these things can go horribly wrong and focuses only on their faults, unfortunately a game has to retain some nature of entertainment to sell, so this is almost unavoidable.
Crysis -
trowgundamthink a lot of us are over looking a very obvious choice for a futuristic game, Crysis. It is set in the future when an alien ship crashes into an island in the Pacific. The alien part of the game is about the only thing that we can't be sure that will happen some point in the future. All the soldiers are in high tech suits that augment their physical and provide cloaking and increased defense. There is also a mix of our older weapons with some upgrades and the futuristic weapons we might see in the future.

The character Cortana in this series is an AI based on a former person (Dr. Halsey) who appears in the books. As we discuss in class, AI's that continue on as former people are a very future-relevant issue, since people are leaving behind increasingly complex digital records of themselves online when they die. This trend could easily lead to something that becomes their Digital Twin, that also interacts closely with them while they are alive.
Halo 3
http://www.halo3.com/ I thought i would add this even though everyone already knows what it is. But i would like to show TO show that ideas of the future are all around us. just the place in the game and ideas are future itself. The halo series really is great, and it isn't all hype. I really recommend playing the first Halo on PC, even if you do have an xbox. It has a great online multiplayer, which I still like to play.
Bungie.net is the official website for the Halo series, and with Halo 3 coming out they have added some pretty sweet features that connect with the game. You can see stats of yourself and others, like in Halo 2, but now you can share user created content with others. Once you have created a sweet gametype, saved film, or screenshot; others can flag this content to automatically be downloaded the next time they turn on their Xbox 360. All you have to do is link your account to bungie.net. No Halo 3 player should be without these features.
Parasite Eve 2- A game about genetic mutation. The game proposes an extreme outcome of what could happen if attempts in genetic mutation fail.
Ace Combat 5: The Unsung WarThis flight-sim game takes place in the near future, featuring advanced technology that is rather sophisticated yet somewhat feasible in a few years. Even though the game is mostly pure entertainment, it features a plotline where an advanced orbital space vehicle (called the Arkbird), originally built for peaceful scientific purposes, becomes tranformed by the government into a deadly superweapon. The story is full of examples of how our advancing technology, even if it's made for peaceful purposes, can easily be sabotaged and used for war and destruction. Eventually, all of the highly advanced machines are destroyed by each opposing side, showing how future hi-tech war can be self-defeating and self-destructive on the progress of technology.
Dystopia:A Half-Life 2 Mod -
tcm112007Dystopia is a total conversion of the popular game Half-Life 2. In this game, there are two teams. One is the Corporate Security Forces, where they control most everything in society. The other team is the Punks, which are a rebellion against the Corporate Security Forces. In rebellion, the Punks use hackers to go into the computer systems of the Companies and disable security systems to advance to their goal. This is future fiction because if we continue with the controlled content, we could end up with this extreme where one side owns most of the information. Half-Life -
tcm112007Half-Life is the game that started it all. This game is the story of a modern fictional research facility in the depths of the New Mexico desert. It is here where the MIT research scientist Gordon Freeman starts a catastrophe that opens portals all over the facility. This is realistic future fiction because there could be a time where we run into technology that we do not know anything about, that could result in something bad happening. Links:

Doom 3 -
tcm112007Doom 3 is a realistic future fiction based on the planet Mars. The UAC, a research organization, has set up a research facility on the surface of Mars to dig for artifacts. What they do not know is that the civilization had found a way to hell itself. This is future fiction because we will eventually go to Mars to explore. We will also set up camps on the surfacce of Mars to explore what is on it's surface, and discover a way to make living on another planet easier. Link:
