FERN Online CommunityThis is a featured page

Currently the FERN Social Network (200+members), is a group inside the Shaping Tomorrow Foresight Network (2000+ members), the largest professional foresight social network on the web, on the Ning platform. As FERN grows we wish to maintain this valuable affiliation with STFN, build affiliations with other leading foresight communities (Association of Professional Futurists, Association of Strategic Planners, etc.), and to develop a FERN presence on Facebook and LinkedIn, the two leading general and business social networks.

We will also need our own community workspace as we grow.
Foresight students, educators, researchers, alums, and avocates will all benefit from an online community that facilitates both social interaction and workgroup collaboration. Groupsite.com is one example of community platform that might become our FERN Online Community, as it has many free and low-cost features, including file storage, that are oriented to workgroup activities, unlike Ning, which is more limited to social networking. Everyone in the FERN community could use this platform for project planning, collaboration, and ongoing discussion forums. As FERN is not presently a membership organization, anyone could join the Online Community, but would have to fill out a basic profile and provide a photo, just as with our existing STFN community.

Starting a FERN Online Community is a high priority, but in order to begin this project needs both a Director lead (to work with and supervise Volunteers) and a Volunteer lead (to serve as volunteer team leader).

Interested in starting this project for the FERN community? We'd love to work with you. Email a FERN director that you'd like to work with, and let's begin.
